I love Halloween! I love cheeky pumpkin illustrations, spider webs, witches and gothic colour schemes. I love indulging in fancy dress, or even just novelty accessories. Every year, my inner Goth’s thirst is quenched by the delicious Halloween offerings from high street and online fashion brands. Whether you’ve got a job that allows patterned clothing, or you’ve got a few Halloween parties/occasions to attend, most gals can find a reason to own at least one cutesy spooky item! Of course, ASOS and Boohoo amongst others have really embraced their Halloween collections over the last few years, and for a more trendy Halloween look you can be sure to find something on their websites. For the more pinup inclined, like myself, there’s nothing more appealing than a vintage cut skirt or top with beautiful prints or appliques.
Lets start with Hell Bunny!
Hell Bunny add to their Halloween line every year with gothic gusto and plenty of kitsch prints. This year is no exception, and here’s my top picks!
The Salem 50’s Dress (shown left), available in plus-size (up to a UK 24):
The structure of this dress is sure to flatter, with cap sleeves and sweet keyhole neckline detail. I find the length of Hell Bunny’s swing skirts to be really good, especially on a tall gal like myself. This dress ticks every Halloween box: the super cute fabric features pumpkins, heart-framed ghosts, black cats, bats and moons! The print is also available in a mini dress, blouse and swing skirt. Spookylicious!
Featuring distinctly fall-themed vegetables, acorns and berries, the print is unmistakably suited to this time of year. The dress has sleeves long enough to keep you warm but not stifling, and the interesting neckline leads to a row of cute green buttons. I love that the colour palette is light and fresh too, as the rest of my wardrobe at this time of year is nearly always black. Kudos, Hell Bunny!
Collar? Check. Black dress? Check. Cute detail? Love! The Miss Muffet dress has a simple skater cut and comes in a luxe black velvet, with spiderweb embroidery on the collar. The Matou dress has longer sleeves, and features a sweet black cat print all over, with Meow! embroidered on the collar. Realistically, I would wear both these items all year round. Wouldn’t you?!
If you’re a plus-size pinup in the UK, I’m sure you’ve heard of Lady V London and Lady Voluptuous. Affordable, great quality, great size range and quirky prints galore. Lady Voluptuous is the plus-size friendly side of the businesses, with dresses available up to a UK 32. Though some of their dresses have a stiffer, more structured fabric, I’m an absolute sucker for the Lyra dress. It’s made from a soft stretch jersey, has the most flattering cut, and is often available in both long sleeve and short sleeve styles. With a floaty swing skirt, wrap over neckline and cinching tie waist, there’s not many girls who aren’t in love with Lyra. Here’s Lady V’s Halloween styles!
These long sleeve Lyras are just begging to be worn on a crisp Autumn day! All priced at £47.50, and available in UK sizes 16 to 32. Firstly we have the Dead Thumbs Up. with little green zombie hands and skulls. Next, a very pirate-y Skull & Crossbones number, and finally the Zombie Apocalypse! These dresses are comfy, flattering, and guaranteed to get you in the Halloween mood.
For the tasteful gothic lady we have the Maria Dress in Elegant Rose (£50.00), the Liliana Dress in red rose (£60.00), or the Rosa Dress in Debonair Damask (£50.00). Chuck on a witches hat and bring your broomstick, and you’ve got a perfect pin-up witch! These are the kind of dresses you could wear again and again.
Affordable, bright, and quickly becoming one of the UK’s most popular vintage repro brands. Lindy Bop have been knocking it out of the park this year, and I was super excited to see what they would bring for Halloween. Sadly, some of the items I loved the most are not available in Lindy Bop’s full size range (up to a UK 26) but rather stop at an 18, such as this insanely cute Matilda Pumpkin Shirt Dress. Nevertheless, it looks like there’s more to come as some dresses in the advertising are not yet featured on the website! Here’s my top picks from what’s available so far…
This gorgeous Witching Hour print is available in both the Vivi Dress (shown) and the Pryia skirt, up to a UK size 26. It has such a classic 1960’s look, it reminds me of the TV show Bewitched! I also adore the main colour of the Delta Green Witch Doctor Dress, currently available up to a UK 22.
This Lily Burnt Orange swing dress is a rare find, as orange tends to be a colour that brands shy away from. I could think of nothing cuter than this dress with a little autumnal fascinator, such as this gorgeous number from my personal favourite Diablo Jo’s! With my green hair and curvy shape, I think I’d make a pretty cute chunky pumpkin in this dress.
If a full themed outfit isn’t for you, I’ve picked out some gorgeous accessories and shoes that will get you feeling frighteningly fierce.
Be spellbound by the Sole Diva Milly Star Flats (£22.00), Sole Diva Mya Star Heels (£35.00), and the Sole Diva Vera Platforms (£35.00). They are all available in E and EEE fit, and will add a touch of magic to any retro outfit throughout Halloween and the party season!
This Bat Cat Brooch by Erstwilder is a super cute addition to any top/cardi (£24.95 from Audrey Stars Boutique in the UK). Alternately, the Shrunken Head Guy from Beetlejuice has been immortalized by the wonderful Backbeat Betty to adorn your top for £10.50!
I’ve got a soft spot for Little Shop of Horrors, and these Audrey 2 Collar Clips (£8.50) from Dolly Cool are the cutest! Match them with the Audrey 2 Hair Tie (£6.50) and you’ve got a gorgeous combo that I personally would wear all year round.
Complete your look with the white or purple Bat Wing Handbag by Banned, available from Starlet Vintage for £24.99. For a slightly more sophisticated look, here’s the Thirien Bag from Aldo at a tidy £40.00.
So there’s Patti’s Pinup Roundup for Halloween 2017. Of course, there’s plenty more spooky stuff that I’ve fallen in love with, but I had to condense it somehow!
Please feel free to comment with any additions you feel my gaggle of pinup witches need to know about!
Have a happy Halloween my darlings,
